Weekly Photo Challenge: All-Time Favorites

I was really sad to read that this would be the final weekly photo challenge.  I still remember the first time I participated, I was so nervous about putting something out there!  What I discovered was a supportive network filled with people who love to capture images.  We all interpret the theme in our own way and there are no wrong answers.  The photo challenge has exposed me to people from all over the world and their experiences and lives.  I’ll miss it, but I’m so thankful for the opportunity to participate.  I gained the confidence I needed to keep posting and build my blog to what it is today.

Exploring K.C. with Maisie

Our agenda at the conference was jam packed the first day but on the second day we had a couple hours of free time and since it was a beautiful, sunny day Maisie and I struck out for a walk.IMG_2875One of the local bloggers had written a post with suggestions of other things to do and places to see while we were in Kansas City and I wanted to find one of the murals that she had featured.

It was a beautiful walk and we passed several fountains and a pretty outdoor plaza at Crown Center.  IMG_2826IMG_2869The mural was located in Union Hill, and boy oh boy, did we walk uphill to find it! I didn’t realize that Kansas City was so hilly and Maisie and I were both hot and thirsty by the time we got to the top and of course, I couldn’t find the mural.  It was getting close to the time for me to get back and change for dinner and the awards ceremony so we headed back toward the hotel.  Wouldn’t you know it, we turned a corner and there it was!IMG_2879

we are submitting this post to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Lines

Shedding the winter blues

Last week I went on vacation and was able to escape the prolonged winter weather that has been sweeping most of the country.

For the first five days, I was by myself in one of my favorite places, Sanibel Island, Florida.  I took off my watch, shut off my phone, ate when I was hungry and slept when I was tired.  Every morning I walked on the beach and was blissfully alone with my thoughts and my camera.

The Pelicans provided endless entertainment:IMG_2434IMG_2438IMG_2574IMG_2414An overnight storm washed mounds of shells onto the beach, ready to be dug into:IMG_6386IMG_6384IMG_6387Every day I found a new sand sculpture before it was swept away with the tide.IMG_6342IMG_6368IMG_1102IMG_6366

Each day I felt lighter and stronger.  I could breathe easier and my thoughts seemed more clear.

Since saying goodbye to Annie in January, I’ve had a hard time writing but after a few days in the sunshine I started to get excited about it again and began jotting down ideas to post.

It’s always hard to leave, but I felt awakened with new energy and a fresh attitude ready to take on whatever may come my way!
