Shedding the winter blues

Last week I went on vacation and was able to escape the prolonged winter weather that has been sweeping most of the country.

For the first five days, I was by myself in one of my favorite places, Sanibel Island, Florida.  I took off my watch, shut off my phone, ate when I was hungry and slept when I was tired.  Every morning I walked on the beach and was blissfully alone with my thoughts and my camera.

The Pelicans provided endless entertainment:IMG_2434IMG_2438IMG_2574IMG_2414An overnight storm washed mounds of shells onto the beach, ready to be dug into:IMG_6386IMG_6384IMG_6387Every day I found a new sand sculpture before it was swept away with the tide.IMG_6342IMG_6368IMG_1102IMG_6366

Each day I felt lighter and stronger.  I could breathe easier and my thoughts seemed more clear.

Since saying goodbye to Annie in January, I’ve had a hard time writing but after a few days in the sunshine I started to get excited about it again and began jotting down ideas to post.

It’s always hard to leave, but I felt awakened with new energy and a fresh attitude ready to take on whatever may come my way!

  1. I spent a week at a friend’s house in Jacksonville…just left today. We went out walking on the beach collecting shells. Yesterday we were in Ferna-something beach, the previous walk was on the navy base beach…Katie got to go on that one and she loved running on the beach. But to spend 5 days alone on the beach? That would be heaven! I haven’t been to that beach. Maybe someday….
